NETWORK

A computer network is a system that connects a group of independent computers to exchange information (data) and resources. The integration of computers and other gadgets makes it easier for users to communicate.
A computer network is a collection of two or more interconnected computer systems. A network connection can be made by cable or wireless media. In any network, computers and tools are connected via hardware and software.
A computer network is made up of various nodes. Nodes in a computer network can include servers, networking devices, personal computers, and other specialized or general-purpose hosts. They are identified by hostnames and network addresses.

What are the characteristics of a good network?

A computer network is a system that connects several independent systems.

  • Performance:

Performance can be measured in a variety of methods, including transmission and reaction time. The length of time it takes for a message to go from one device to another is referred to as transit time. The time that passes between an inquiry and a response is referred to as response time. The network's performance is determined by a variety of elements, including the number of users, the kind of medium, and the hardware.

  • Reliability:

Reliability is measured in addition to accuracy by the frequency of failure, the time it takes a link to recover from failure, and the network's resiliency in the event of a disaster.

  • Security:

Security concerns include preventing unwanted access to data, preserving data from harm and development, and implementing rules and processes for recovering from breaches and data loss.

Types of Network

Network Types are classified based on their communication medium.

  • Wired Network:

As we all know, a "wired" network is any physical medium comprised of cables. Copper wire, twisted pair cables, and fiber optic cables are all possible. A wired network uses wires to connect devices such as laptops or desktop PCs to the Internet or another network.

  • Wireless Network:

"Wireless" refers to media that does not need wires and is composed of electromagnetic waves (EM Waves) or infrared waves. On all wireless devices, antennas or sensors will be present. Wireless gadgets include cell phones, wireless sensors, TV remotes, satellite disc receivers, and laptops with WLAN cards. A wireless network employs radio frequency waves rather than wires for data or voice connection.

Network Types are classified based on their covered area:

  • Local Area Network (LAN):

A LAN is a network that spans around 10 kilometers. A collegiate network, for example, or an office network. A LAN might be a single office, a building, or a campus, depending on the demands of the organization. We can have two PCs and one printer in our home office, or it can be extended throughout an organization and incorporate audio and video devices. Each LAN host has an identifier, which is an address that defines the hosts in the LAN. A packet delivered from one host to another contains both the source and destination host's addresses.

  • Metropolitan Area Network (MAN):

A MAN is a network that encompasses an entire city. Take, for example, the cable television network.

  • Wide Area Network (WAN):

A WAN is a network that connects countries or continents. The Internet, for example, allows users to connect to a distributed system known as www from anywhere on the planet. The wide area network (WAN) connects devices such as switches, routers, and modems. A LAN is usually owned privately by the organization that uses it. Today, we observe two types of WANs: point-to-point and switched WANs.

What is the Internet?

The internet is a wider network that connects computer networks run by businesses, governments, institutions, and other organizations all around the world. As a result, there is a tangle of cables, computers, data centers, routers, servers, repeaters, satellites, and wi-fi towers that allow digital data to travel the globe.

The Internet is a massive network of networks that serves as a network infrastructure. It connects millions of computers throughout the world, forming a network in which any computer that is connected to the Internet can communicate with any other computer.

The Internet is a global network of interconnected computers that communicate and share information using the Internet Protocol Suite, which is standardized.

Is it appropriate for you to use the Internet?

Advantages

  • Source of entertainment:

Online gaming, conversing, browsing, music, movies, dramas, and TV shows are gradually becoming the most popular methods to pass the time.

  • Information source:

There is no better location to conduct research than the internet. We can learn about the latest trends, communicate with professionals without having to physically visit them, and seek professional guidance over the internet.

  • E-commerce:

With the advent of internet technology, huge online E-commerce firms such as Amazon, Ali Baba, myntra, and others have developed. Working from home, interacting with others, and having access to a global workforce are all perks.

  • Keeps You Up to Date:

Because hundreds of thousands of newsgroups and services keep you up to date with every tick of the clock.

Disadvantage

  • Time Wastage:

Most people believe that spending too much time on the internet is detrimental to young people and leads to obesity.

  • Money Laundering:

Aside from legitimate sites, some Social Media Advertising sites try to steal your personal information, credit card information, and even your pin code. If they obtain this information, you are at risk of becoming a victim of a money scam.

  • Exposure to private data:

Thanks to the hacker community, it is now relatively simple to decipher someone's chat or email correspondence. As we all know, data is transferred in packets, which hackers may easily detect and reassemble.

  • Harassment and threatening:

Bullies exist online, just as they do in real life, and they can undermine your self-esteem by pestering and threatening you.
